If Truth Be Told: A Monk's Memoir
In the 1990s, an eighteen-year-old headed to Australia to realize his worldly dreams. With little money or support, he struggled to survive there. Two years later, he was earning an annual income of $250,000; by the age of twenty-six, he was a multimillionaire. Yet, worldly success was merely a way station on a journey that began years ago. As an eight-year-old, he saw a vision of God in a dream, an experience that left him with a sense of deep joy and peace. The dream triggered off his desire to meet God, to see a manifestation of the Divine. He practised astrology, intense meditation and tantra, yet God was nowhere in sight. Deeply frustrated, he dived into materialistic pursuits to distract himself from the restlessness within. After years of living the good life, he found he could no longer ignore the old restlessness; worldly pleasures just couldn’t fill the void within. He moved back to India and finally did what he had always yearned to do: renounce the world and become a monk. In the Himalayas, in terrifying silence and solitude, Om Swami practised intense meditation. Death was always close as he confronted starvation, the fierce elements and wild animals. Finally, his sadhana brought him to the ultimate realization: ‘I am what I have been seeking.’ This is an astounding memoir of the making of a spiritual life in today’s challenging and often confusing times. If Truth Be Told: A Monk’s Memoir will light up your path, wherever you are on your life’s journey.
Review
I feel very fortunate to write review of this special memoir of his Holiness , The Swamiji. My humble obeisance onto his lotus feet. I was blessed and fortunate to come in contact with Dearest Swamiji thru Speaking Tree. I was immediately impressed by simplicity and depth of his spiritual wisdom. I happened to meet some of his earliest devotees and was perplexed to hear about his extraordinary in most hostile environment. My first meeting with Swamiji was out of world experience for me, wherein I just melted in front of his unimaginable compassion for one and all. I cried in gratitude like I never cried in my lifetime. That experience has already become one of my most memorable experience of this life. Swamiji was initially reluctant to write this divine memoir. It was after persistent request by devotees like me, that Swamiji finally agreed, out of his love, grace and compassion for us. I am sure this divine Memoir of Swamiji has potential to change life of millions of people in unimaginable proportions. A must read memoir. --Vipul Nov 21, 2014
I knew I had to read this book and I did, I loved this book and finished it in two days, and after that I haven't had the desire to read any other self-help book. I wish to re-read it once again because I liked it so much. I strongly suggest that this book should be read. It has been an eye opener for me. --Purnima Das Dec 27, 2014
The title of the book unveils its potential. It's simply outstanding and exceptionally well written. It reflects the truthfulness of the writer and deeper insights, which really inspired me to reflect on my inner truth. I have read many books but this is the first book in my life that I read in almost at one go. I found it extremely gripping with vigour to take me in highs and lows. I was floating in the zone which I have heard that existed but never knew that someone can actually pursue it in real life. The real life incidents accompanied with inner realizations is very interesting throughout this book. A must read --Hemma Dec 8, 2014
