After the partition,Brajagopal came from Bogra to Kolkata,and lived in a rented house along with his wife and children.
Though he was a very respected person in the society but still he had to leave his house due to lack of amity with his wife. He went to a rural area leaving the city forever. But he couldn't get rid of the duties that he was to perform for his family and couldn't manage to keep a distance with them.
All the other incidents involving the rest of the characters are also equally important which makes this novel such mesmerizing.
