DDD # 05 Can Adults Become Human
The Dear Dumb Diary series of books are written as the diary of a teenage girl, Jamie Kelly. She is candid and forthright in her opinions, and she has opinions on most things. She also claims that everything in her diary is true.
In this book, Ddd#05 Can Adults Become Human?, she explores the peculiar psychology of adults. Why can’t they ever share their true feelings with each other? Why do they behave in one way at work, and entirely differently after work?
She tries hard to make sense of the adult world, she asks questions, of her teachers, her parents, but receives no clear answer. Jamie finds adults difficult to understand.
For instance, one of her teachers at school, Mr. VanDoy, doesn’t smile at all. She wonders how this can be. Jamie thinks of the things that make her and her friends smile. As she puts it, everybody must smile about something. So why doesn’t Mr. VanDoy smile?
Jamie and her friends finally reach some interesting conclusions.
This book, like the rest in the series, is a funny and entertaining look at the world from the point of view of a middle-school student, a teenage girl with a wild imagination.
