Frederick Forsyth was born in 1938 in Kent, England. He studied at the University of Granada in Spain. For a while he served as a jet pilot in the Royal Air Force. Then, he became a journalist, covering strife-torn regions. He covered the Nigerian Civil War, and his first book, The Biafra Story, was based on this experience. Then, he wrote his first novel, The Day Of The Jackal, about a plot to assassinate the French President, De Gaulle. It earned him a reputation as an author of excellent and well researched thriller novels.
