Jane Eyre is the story of a young orphaned woman with a free spirit that makes her an alien in her aunt's household. Later she becomes a governess and is drawn to the master of the house, eventually agreeing to marry him. However, what follows are the trials and tribulations of a woman on her own in a predominantly man's world.

Charlotte Bronte, novelist and poetess, was born in 1816, at Thorton vicarage in Yorkshire. All her works, especially Jane Eyre, are remarkable for the vigour of her story-telling and the depth of her characters' feelings.
